So Favre is returning. I said earlier that I thought it would be best for Favre to retire, and to do so ASAP. I still stand by that. The Packers don’t stand much of a chance of doing well this year, and much of the blame is now going to shift onto Favre. A quarter of the way into the season people will say it’s Favre’s fault, and by the last quarter of the season they’ll say we wasted a year that could be used breaking in a ‘quarterback for the future’. Nothing good can come of this, and it’s going to be a painful season to watch. I hope Favre escapes without a permanent asterisk next to his name in our mental record books “was the best, but left a washed up has-been”.

I agree with what you said earlier. I was prepared to let him go since last season was so bad and the outlook for this season doesn’t appear to be much different with or without him. I was ready to move on and I think he has been selfish and somewhat tarnished his image as it was over a year ago of a player that does anything for the team (on a sidenote, he was an amazing teammate at this day an age. several times he took less money and renegotiated his contract to get better players such as ahman green. you don’t hear of that much anymore but it’s something worth remembering). But after hearing of him coming back, I was cool with it. I think our upside for this next year is higher with him but as you alluded to, I think it’s at the expense of breaking in a new qb. IF we stay healthy, I think we could potentially sneak into the playoffs IF our division is like it was last year. Now although the offense hasn’t improved at all this season, just having healthy players will help the offense from last years performance. Their playbook was cut in half because of all the inexperienced players whcih made us really predictable and vulnerable to a lot of turnovers. Our defense has improved from last year in my mind and if we draft AJ Hawk, a LB, and possibly get Woodsen as a dominating corner to go with Al harris and our improved Safety, we have taken away the necessity to have to score points and make us a more patient offense (a la da Bears). The central division is still so mediocre that I think that if we stay healthy, we could compete for the division champs. Unfortunately, a lot of IF’s need to go our way.

Well, it appears your thoughts are not good on this subject. Packer are 5-1! What about Vinnie at age 43 coming back? Why put someone out when they did not have a solid line and were trying a new blocking scheme? They still have no running game, which doesn’t help Bret or the throwing game!! You must be a Vikings or Bears fan! Ha…

Bears or Vikings fan? I should hunt you down! I can admit when I’m wrong, and I was definitely wrong on this. Who would have thought that the youngest team in the NFL, with one of the oldest quarterbacks, would be 5-1. This season could still go bad, but with this kind of start you have to think that there may be more to this team than meets the eye. I guess it just goes to show, never count Favre out!
