I wanted to use a calendar on my site, but keep it as small as possible. I found that the layout for the Wordpress default calendar could be more efficient if the links to the next and previous months were moved to the top, on either side of the current month name, instead of at the bottom where they just take up extra room. To install this plugin, simply copy the jpf_calendar.php file to your plugins folder and activate. This works exactly like the default Wordpress calendar, just insert <?php jpf_calendar(); ?> where you want the calendar to appear. You can then control how it looks using CSS, the exact same way as the standard calendar. The calendar below uses this plugin, so you can see how it might look, again, the difference is that the next/previous month links are on either side of the name of the current month, and all of the appearance (colors, fonts, sizes, etc) can be changed in your CSS.
Note: Tested with Wordpress versions up to and including 2.3

Dear friend,
Your plugin is really great! I was just wondering if it would be possible to include going not just to next/previous month, but also to next/previous year.
Like this: the two arows for month and another couple for years. Would it be possible, indeed?
Thanks for the work!

I’m sure it’s possible, but beyond my immediate abilities. To do this one, I just had to move around some HTML elements, what you’re suggesting would involve adding PHP, which I’m not nearly as strong at…

Hi,
I have a question, not so much about the plugin, but rather how you are getting the excerpts of any given day’s posts to show up when the day is clicked on the calendar.
I am using the Raindrops theme with KG Archives and unfortunately when the day is clicked, all it returns is the title and only one post. Even if there are multiple posts on that day.
I am just wondering what you are using for archives and how you are getting the_excerpt to work with the calender links.
Thanks.

Sounds like a theme issue. Try using the Cutline theme (the one I use), or even the default, and see if you still have a problem to confirm if that’s the case. If so, I’d think it’s an issue with the archives.php file and how it’s laid out. You could compare the two between the themes to see what the differences are.

I cannot change theme as this is one of my client’s sites and the theme has been heavily altered and is a live production site.
I figure it is more a problem with the KG Archives plugin as that is what the site is using for Archives, not the default Archives.php file. I have played around with the plugin, trying to get the_excerpt to work with it, but so far no dice.
I suppose that it would be easiest to just upload the same version of WP to my server, along with the default and Cutline themes, install the calendar plugin and go from there.
Thanks for the quick turnaround and I’ll let you know how it goes.
