So Joe…

I just found the new search site Ms. Dewey. What a great site! It’s a search engine, but the front end is a georgeous woman (Janina Gavankar from ‘The L-Word’) who talks to you. She try’s to encourage you to type questions, and then she responds once you do. A scrolling list of search results is then presented, though I find it difficult to use, and with the given interface, it’s almost a second thought. What’s more fun is just typing in random things to see how she responds. Here are some examples:

• The first time I typed in her name (Janina Gavankar) she gave a quick bio of herself.
• I typed ‘joke’ and she told me a joke (A three legged dog walked into a bar and asked to see the man that shot his paw).
• I typed ‘baby’ and another character, a man, appeared as well, and she asked him if he mistook her birth control pills for breath mints again.
• I typed ‘gun’ and she pulled out a machine gun, aimed it backwards over her shoulder, and in a mirror watched herself shoot up the background, then says ‘Girls, don’t let ‘em fool you, sometimes it IS the size of the gun.
• I typed ‘car’ and she said ‘Last time I took a car out on a test drive I didn’t get back until… wait, I still have that car… my bad!
• I typed ’sex’ and she said ‘Like my mother always told me, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, except sometimes you get a rash on your ass.
• I typed ’shot’ and she did a shot of liquor, then pulled out a remote control, and rewound herself doing the shot (Tivo like), then played it back again.

This isn’t all just canned though, type in the same word again and you probably won’t get the same result (though with a little persistance it isn’t hard to get a repeat on specific terms). For instance, I typed in ’sex’ a second time (she’s hot, I had sex on the brain), and she pulled out a sledge hammer and said ‘A girls best friend’. I can’t imagine how many different takes they did of her doing different things. A couple that are worth trying out are ‘bush’ and ‘clinton’. Go ahead, give it a try. It’s very addictive!
