I wanted to keep track of the Technorati ranking for my blog without having to constantly visit the Technorati site. I wanted something simple that I could easily integrate into my layout (I just display the text in a list of administrative options other users don’t see). So, I hacked something together that does the job for me, maybe someone else is looking for the same type of thing. Read more…

I wanted to keep track of the Alexa ranking for my blog without having to constantly visit the Alexa site. I found a plugin for this called Alexa Rank, but the plugin shows a graphical bar that you have to hover over to get the numerical value. I wanted something a bit more simple that I could better integrate into my layout (I just display the text in a list of administrative options other users don’t see). So, I hacked something together that does the job for me, maybe someone else is looking for the same type of thing. Read more…

ReviewMe is a new form of ‘PayPerPost’, a way of paying bloggers to review products and services. Other methods of reimbursement for product reviews have been criticized by many for their ‘insincerity’, that is, posters are required to give a positive review if they want to get paid, and their is also no indication to the reader that they are getting paid for their review. ReviewMe fixes this issue by assuring reviewers they will get paid for an honest review, and by requiring that the review be labeled as a ‘paid advertisement’. Read more…

Upon awakening this morning, I was greated by the sun, which isn’t all that common this time of year round my parts (Wisconsin, USA). Stepping outside I found it to be unseasonably warm, very comfortable. When I checked the news I found that indeed, their would be a changing of the guard in the House, and the Senate was very close, close enough that even if it didn’t go to the Dems, that good work could be done. Just walking around, I feel lighter, like a bit of weight has been lifted. At my weekly Wednesday lunch, everything seemed to taste a little better. Returning from lunch, I found that another Senate seat went blue, but the smile on my face grew much wider upon learning that Rumsfeld had resigned.

I realize that over the next two years, their will be a lot of mud slinging and finger pointing. It will be frustrating, as the Dems press to try and reverse some of the damage that has been done, and bring to answer the wrong doers, while the White House will insist that they just want to move forward and get real work done (they’ve had six years, why didn’t they get any real work done then?) but are being stopped by the Dems. I would rather have nothing done, then to have what’s been done in the last few years continue.

I was a little worried that corruption would still swing this election to the right, and I’m a bit disappointed that most of the races were as close as they ended up (seems to me a blow-out was in order), but I still have to say that today democracy has finally returned, and it smells so sweet…

The JPF Category Feed plugin allows you to easily list the RSS category feeds for your post. It is quite flexible, allowing a number of parameters that can derive horizontal and vertical listings or even ’sentence’ form. Installation is simple, copy the jpf_catfeed.php file to your Wordpress plugins folder and activate in your Plugins Management tab. The optional rss.gif file can be copied anywhere in your site, and can be referred to as specified below. Then, place the following code in ‘the loop’:
