In some Arab countries, Ashwagandha is also known as an narcotic plant, which is often used as a narcotic drug. Other names of the plant are: Winter Cherry, Sleeping Berry and Indian Ginseng. In the meantime, Ashwagandha is also available in Europe, as they are used to alleviate a number of complaints.
The origin of Ashwagandha
Experts say that the dormitory berry originally comes from North Africa, but also countries in the Middle East and China have been using the positive influence of Ashwagandha for a long time. Researchers have been able to show by means of soil samples and excavations that this plant has been in the hands of humans for more than 3000 years. Indian scripts also call the sleeping berry the miracle cure. At some point in the 16th century, seafarers brought Ashwagandha to Europe, but it is only now that she finally gets the attention she deserves.
Ashwagandha belongs to the Nightshade family. It is directly related to Whitania and reproduces independently after spreading a little seed in spring. The plant can grow up to 1.5 meters like a bush. They are usually recognised by the flowers, which look like small bells, or by the small oval leaves which protect the bush. The flowering period is usually from mid-July to the end of September. The fruits that emerge from the blossoms reveal a rich and very beautiful red colour. The fruit is also protected by very fine leaves. This often looks like a lantern. Someday this thin skin will burst open. This is a sure sign that the fruit has completed the ripening process.
The at least the plants let their roots grow as straight as Ashwagandha. Only if there is no other way, does it form small, curved root fragments.
The dormant berry is a very useful plant and so it is hardly surprising that you can use not only the berries but almost all parts of it. However, medicine uses only the older plants because it contains a higher concentration of active substances. Only when the plant is seven years old or older can really good preparations be produced, as they do not miss their effect. If you want to use Ahswagandha, you should never use it raw, because it contains a lot of bitter substances. It is better to boil them with pepper, cane sugar and milk and consume them while warm. The content of withanoldien should always be the same, otherwise the daily dosage is very difficult. Further criteria are that the product must not contain any chemical additives, such as preservatives.
Studies on Ashwagandha
Science had no interest in Ashwagandha for a very long time. However, the more people became interested in the plant described as a miracle cure, the researchers also began to study the sleeping berry. In the meantime, numerous studies have been published that focus almost exclusively on the efficacy of the plant.
A study carried out in India in 2013 gave 180 men who were barren for three months the extract of the ashwagandha root, exactly 5 grams. In order to be able to make comparisons, 50 healthy men were included in the study. In infertile men, semen has improved in quality. Therefore, it was concluded that Ashwagandha can be used as a therapeutic support.
In the same year there was a study in Malaysia which showed that cancer patients were much more agile due to the intake of the dormant berry. Cancer and its therapy often makes patients weak and tired. Accordingly, the quality of life of the test persons had improved significantly.
In 2016, there was a study at the University of Kashmir in which it was found out that not only a therapeutic effect in cancer patients took place, but that Ashwagandha can also be used against fears, as well as against microbial infection. This holds a lot of potential new possibilities for healing in the future, or at least that people who take this remedy can simply feel better.
According to a study conducted in 2015, the drug is also said to have proved very effective in stroke cases. Here, too, it was used as a remedy for therapeutic purposes.

This has been proven by several studies. The plant is a good alternative to chemically structured preparations. If the organic quality is maintained and the products are sold without additional chemical substances, it is also very healthy. In Germany, it is already being used more and more frequently by many people as a food supplement, be it to prevent sleep disorders and stress, or be it that one simply wants to feel a little better, fitter and more agile in oneself.
